EA on a Worcester means no flame was detected. In winter, a frozen condensate pipe is the classic cause and a free fix.
What it actually means
EA (often shown with a number like 227) is Worcester Bosch's flame failure code: the boiler tried to light, or lost its flame, and locked out.
In cold weather this is very often the condensate pipe frozen solid outside, which is a five minute fix with warm water.
Try this first, before you spend a penny

Cold outside? Thaw the condensate pipe
Find the white plastic pipe running from the boiler to an outside drain. Pour warm (never boiling) water along it, or hold a hot water bottle on it, then reset.

Check your gas supply
Hob dead too? Check the meter, prepayment credit, and that the emergency control valve is fully open.

Reset once
Hold the reset button as the manual shows. One attempt. If it locks out again, leave it for the engineer.
Safety line, not small print
Never open the boiler case yourself. If you can smell gas, stop and call 0800 111 999 first.
When it is a pro job
If it is not the condensate pipe or the supply, the ignition electrode, flame sensor or gas valve needs professional attention. All of that lives inside the case, which is Gas Safe only.
